An indictment was unsealed in the US District Court for the Distroct of Columbia charging Capitol Heights resident Jaevonn Archer, 20, and Camp Springs native Timothy Williams, 30, with conspiracy to commit kidnapping and kidnapping in the February abduction.
The Metropolitan Police Department issued an alert in February as they sought the public's assistance in identifying suspects who kidnapped a man at gunpoint in DC, then drove him to Virginia before dropping him off in Maryland, according to officials.
Police say that at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25, the victim arranged to meet with a man he met while using social media to sell him some items.
The two agreed to meet at 25th Street and L Street NW, and when the victim arrived, two suspects, wearing all black got out of their car brandishing handguns, forcing him back into his own vehicle.
They then drove the man to his home in McLean, stole money and property, then took him to District Heights in Maryland, where they fled the scene and the Prince George's County Police Department was called.
As part of the takedown operation, federal officials said that police searched five residences in and around the DMV region, leading to the recovery of numerous guns, vehicles, drugs, and cash from the kidnapping.
Archer and Williams were arrested on Tuesday at two separate Maryland homes, prosecutors said, and charged with armed kidnapping.
In addition, officials made note that District resident Malik Williams, 30, a previously convicted felon, was arrested at a third location and will face weapons charges in US District Court.
The case remains under investigation.
